Reflection

My first major assignment was an interesting twist on the way that I usually write, seeing as it was something that I am not exactly used to. During this assignment I learned how to correctly write an informational report using many sourcing and how to conduct interviews with my peers to complete this assignment. I used skills I learned by writing other papers to correctly detail the list of ways you can use writing in my major field.
In the beginning of this assignment I assumed that writing in the field of psychology had mainly to do with research and not much to do with therapy, but as I researched more into my field I learned just how writing can impact therapy practices and also be used as a therapeutic mean for the patient when not within the psychology session.
Some challenges I encountered when writing this assignment were exactly how to write it. I've written many essays before but to be honest I have never encountered this type of writing. Although intimidated reading example IR essays and other types similar helped me kind of create structure for my essay. Also meeting with my professor helped because I was able to gain a sense of what he was looking for in my essay instead of blindly handing it in because I wasn't sure if what I wrote was what he wanted.
As a writer I learned that I still have some areas of writing that are my weaknesses, such as this area. Although I'd love to say that this essay was something I was able to learn and conquer I cannot, because I'm still unsure that my work is up to par with what I usually write. My strengths in the essay were my ability to depict and describe the different types of ways writing is used in psychology but I believe the structure of the essay itself may be my weakness.
Personally I found group conference with Alex Quarella quite useful because I had two separate eyes looking at my paper at once, not just a one on one with my professor. Also, since Alex and I are good friends, it made the conference less intense and more relaxing for me. I think the conferences in general are a good idea because you can gain a sense of what your professor is looking for rather than blindly writing something that may be the exact opposite of what they want.
